How to make the most of your AMA Victoria membership

AMBASSADOR The more member power we have behind us, the more effective we can be in advocating for your rights. Your AMA Victoria membership also gives you membership of the Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation (ASMOF), the union for doctors in Australia.* Together we ensure your workplace conditions are maintained and improved by negotiating both the Doctors in Training and Specialists' enterprise agreements, provide advice on workplace entitlements, assist doctors who have issues with Medical Workforce and Payroll and provide advice and representation for doctors who are involved in performance processes, investigations or disciplinary procedures. We encourage you to help us improve working conditions in public hospitals by talking to your non-member colleagues about joining AMA Victoria and ASMOF Victoria. MENTOR Mentoring Mentees: Members who are post-internship to fellowship and working in Victoria as a medical practitioner with full registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA can apply as a mentee to AMA Victoria’s 12-month mentoring program. Mentors: Members who are experienced doctors from senior registrar level upwards who are fully registered with AHPRA and currently practising in their chosen field of practice can apply to mentor a junior doctor for the 12-month program. AMA Victoria will provide you with guidance about your role as a mentor and training as necessary. Become a volunteer Peer service volunteer If you’d like to assist doctors in distress by providing ongoing confidential practical support, express your interest in becoming a volunteer telephone counsellor for the Peer Support Service or Doctor Support service we provide. A staff member will discuss with you the training and roster requirements. AMA Victoria also offers a peer visitor program to help to provide companionship to retired elderly doctors, who may be isolated or living in residential aged care. Become a volunteer	COUNCILLOR AMA Victoria works hard to represent you, your interests, and your rights at work. Subdivision meetings are a way you can be involved and have your voice heard in the organisation. As a member, you automatically enter two subdivisions: One based geographically on your location and another based vocationally on your area of expertise. Meetings are held regularly via Zoom, where you can contribute to discussions that actively shape public health policy, influence doctors’ work conditions, and improve the quality of patient care.
