AMA Victoria has written to the State Health Minister relaying our concerns about the continued pause to planned elective surgery. We are seeking to discuss sensible and proportionate measures that could be taken to recommence elective surgery from tomorrow.

Australians with cancer are being urged to get vaccinated, following new research analysis which reveals one in four people with cancer who contract COVID-19 die from the virus. Medical professionals have a key role to play in encouraging patients to get vaccinated.
The 2021 Hospital Health Check
The Hospital Health Check quantifies issues experienced by Victorian trainees working in the public hospital system. The survey helps AMA Victoria identify workplace and cultural issues within public hospitals across the state. It also provides a way for AMA Victoria to monitor progress and improvements made by health services.

On the morning of Thursday 20 May, AMA Victoria was afforded the opportunity to take part in this year’s budget ‘lockup’ (or, in the Government’s terms, “Special Interest Group briefing”). This was a useful opportunity to hear firsthand from State Ministers an outline of the key elements of the 2021-22 Victorian State Budget, and to comb through its voluminous contents a few hours before the general public.
