As we approach International Women’s Day, AMA Victoria invites members to nominate outstanding women in medicine for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women. This prestigious recognition celebrates women who have made a lasting impact in their field and the broader Victorian community.
Why nominate?
The Honour Roll celebrates the diverse contributions of women across various sectors, including healthcare. Previous honourees in medicine include Professor Helena Teede (2012), Dr. Christine Tippett (2017), and Professor Danielle Mazza (2020). We encourage members to put forward women whose leadership, advocacy, and dedication have shaped the medical profession and improved their communities.
AMA Victoria is proud to support nominations by providing letters of endorsement for eligible candidates.
Who can be nominated?
Nominees must have a strong connection to Victoria and have made a significant and lasting contribution in their field. They may be recognised under one of four categories:
- Change Agent: A leader driving long-term, transformative change in their area of expertise.
- Emerging Leader: A young woman (aged 16-30) demonstrating leadership and inspiring future generations.
- Local Champion: A dedicated contributor to their community, either professionally or through volunteer work.
- Trailblazer: A pioneer in a traditionally male-dominated field, breaking barriers for women.
Recognising trailblazing women in medicine
Posthumous nominations are welcome. Our earlier Name A Place drive, also highlighted trailblazing female doctors. AMA Victoria will itself be nominating figures such as Dr. Joyce Daws, the first female President of AMA Victoria, in recognition of her contributions to medicine and leadership. Notably, Dr. Annie Jean Macnamara and Dr. Vera Scantlebury Brown, both of whom were nominated as part of our Name A Place drive, have also been inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women. Both efforts serve to honour and preserve the contributions of women in medicine, ensuring their impact on Victoria’s healthcare landscape is acknowledged and remembered.
How to nominate
Nominations are submitted online via the Victorian Honour Roll of Women website: www.vic.gov.au/honour-roll-women.
Nominators will need to provide:
- A biography and summary of achievements.
- A CV or LinkedIn profile.
- Responses addressing assessment criteria.
- Two referee statements of support.
- A high-quality recent photo of the nominee
