The Victorian Maternity Taskforce was established in October 2024 to address challenges in maternity care and strengthen the safety, sustainability, and accessibility of rural and regional maternity services in Victoria. The Taskforce will deliver recommendations to the Government in mid-2025 and is focused on four key areas:

  • Access to Services and Models of Care – ensuring safe, responsive, and locally accessible maternity care
  • Maternity Workforce – addressing shortages, retention, and regional workforce challenges
  • Quality and Safety – improving patient safety, incident reporting, and service standards
  • Consumer Experience – ensuring maternity care meets the needs and preferences of women and families

How to contribute

AMA Victoria is preparing a submission on behalf of members and is seeking feedback on workforce pressures, service accessibility, safety concerns, and patient experiences in Victoria’s maternity system.

If you have insights, data, or recommendations related to the four key areas, particularly in rural and regional maternity care, we encourage you to contribute.

To share your feedback or express interest in contributing, email Senior Policy Adviser Lewis Horton at [email protected]

The formal submission deadline is 14 March 2025, but we encourage members to provide feedback as early as possible to ensure it can be properly considered and incorporated into AMA Victoria’s submission.

All input will remain confidential and directly inform AMA Victoria’s advocacy.
